Fire guts historic Queens church

QUEENS Six firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The building was dedicated back in 1873.

Info from the church's Web site:

"For more than 135 years the First Reformed Church of College Point has been bearing witness to Christ in the community of College Point. Our church traces it's history back to 1871, when Conrad Popenhusen, an industrialist and benefactor of College Point, met with a group of his peers for the purpose of forming a church to minister to the growing community. Regular worship services began soon after, and on September 28, 1873, the church building was dedicated. The church and its lovely grounds are set in a quiet residential community."
