A Fairfield dentist who illegally prescribed narcotics to friends, family and addicts has been sentenced to three years in prison. Paul Dengelegi was sentenced Monday in Bridgeport Superior Court, where he was convicted of nine counts of illegally prescribing and obtaining narcotics.

Assistant State's Attorney C. Robert Satti Jr. called the 43-year-old dentist "a purveyor of death and addiction."

Prosecutors say Dengelegi issued between $128,000 and $136,000 worth of illegal prescriptions for oxycodone, OxyContin, Percocet and other painkillers. Dengelegi's attorney, Henry Lyons, said they will appeal his conviction.
