Lesser charges against NY officer dismissed

NEW YORK The defendant, former Mount Kisco Officer George Bubaris, still faces a charge of second-degree manslaughter, with its potential sentence of five to 15 years in prison.

He is accused of killing Rene Perez, a drunken, undocumented Guatemalan, with a blow to his abdomen in April 2007.

After the prosecution rested, defense attorney Andrew Quinn asked state Supreme Court Justice Lester Adler to dismiss all the charges Wednesday.

The judge dismissed unlawful imprisonment and two counts of official misconduct but the manslaughter charge survived and the defense case began.
