Family of tasered teen sues NYPD

HARLEM - > A teenaged son of a former New York City police officer is suing the city, claiming excessive force was used against him when he was tasered at a barbecue in Harlem.

"He has permanent scars that he can never erase. He has memories of officers beating him down. They put him in a choke-hold," said Mita Mingues-Lombard.

She is still angry about what she says New York City police officers did to her son, Alexander Lombard the Third.

The family went public last August, just days after they say the then 17-year old was tasered four times and beaten with a nightstick. Officers had responded to a disturbance call at a barbeque.

A disorderly conduct summons issued to the teenager was later dismissed, but the family is now suing the NYPD and the officers involved.

"What's really important to this family is if criminal act was committed by a police officer, that that criminal act be address in the justice system," said attorney Sanfird Rubenstein.

Alexander Lombard the Second accuses police of using excessive force with his son that left permanent scars and nerve damage.

He said word this week that a consultant has suggested the department expand use of tasers is reason for concern.

"This happened to my son, which raises the question who else could it happen to in the future if you have every cop walking a beat, every cop on a radio call with a stun gun," he said.

The NYPD did not comment on the lawsuit, but issued a statement about the arrest.

"The suspect refused medical treatment, was issued a summons, and released," wrote Deputy Commissioner Paul J. Browne.

The Lombards insist this lawsuit is not about money. In fact, no dollar value has been attached. They say it's about holding accountable the officers involved.
