Former NJ bishop accused of stealing

NEWARK, N.J. - A state indictment handed up Thursday charged that Steven Parrott promised he would quickly repay the five victims with large amounts of interest.

The 52-year-old once oversaw a diocese that included churches in Essex, Hudson and Mercer counties and had led the Lighthouse Temple Church in Newark. Prosecutors say he was removed when the thefts came to light.

Authorities had no immediate information on a lawyer for Parrott and no listing could be found for Parrott.
