Child struck by mirror on school bus

Sixth-grader was struck in the head
MARINE PARK Police say the 11-year-old boy was hit while crossing Stuart Street to get to I.S. 278 just before 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Police say the student had just gotten off an MTA bus and was crossing the street when he was hit by the privately-operated passing mini school bus contracted by the Education Department. The mirror of the bus struck the boy in the head.

The bus stopped and officials from the school rushed to the scene.

The boy sustained a serious head injury and was rushed Kings County Hospital in serious condition. He was conscious and alert as he was transported to the hospital, officials say.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
