The wall reportedly fell on the man's shoulder as it collapsed on top of him.
Rescuers rushed to the scene to pull the wall off the man, but he was already in grave condition.
He was rushed to the hospital where he later died. Investigators are on the scene trying to determine what caused the tragic accident.
"They're moving the wall from point A to point B with a strap that's also connected to a metal cable. The strap failed for whatever reason, and the man was struck. He's approximately a 53-year-old male. He was struck on the shoulder, and the wall landed on him," said Chief Jeff Rudden, with the Newark Fire Department.
The victim has not been identified.
