About seven miles of Manhattan streets - including part of Park Avenue - will be closed to traffic for a few hours on Saturdays later this summer. The program, called Summer Streets, will stretch from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the streets will be closed to vehicles from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on three Saturdays in August.

Several crosstown streets will still be open.

The program is modeled after recreation areas in other cities around the world - including Bogota, Colombia; Guadalajara, Mexico; and El Paso, Texas.

The route will include rest stops offering water and bike repairs, as well as activities like fitness, dance and yoga.
