New York City's first Ikea outlet has not even opened yet - but that hasn't stopped shoppers from lining up outside the store.Promises of freebies - including sofas worth $399 each - have drawn a crowd of people since 5 a.m. Monday to the Swedish retailer's latest store in Brooklyn.

They have pitched tents and rolled out sleeping bags and plan to camp at the store until the doors opens at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Ikea's Brooklyn store follows the model set by the retailer's suburban outlets, offering do-it-yourself furniture and a cafeteria that serves Swedish meatballs.

Some community members had opposed the store, saying it would lead to outsized development in the largely isolated Red Hook neighborhood.
