Cool work gear for NYC sanitation workers

NEW YORK The city's sanitation workers will no longer be forced to sweat out the humid summer months in pants. Instead, they can wear green uniform shorts that end above the knee.

Sanitation worker Liston "Benny" Judge says shorts make a big difference on 96-degree days. The majority of the city's sanitation vehicles have no air conditioning.

Sanitation Commissioner John Doherty says that when he began his career in 1960 that he always wondered why he couldn't wear shorts.

Uniformed Sanitationmen's Association President Harry Nespoli says the shorts could be ideal for sanitation workers who sweep the streets or drive long distances.
