Four arrested in fireworks bust

LONG ISLAND Authorities say a two-week investigation led to the arrest of 57-year-old James Rankin, of Wantagh.

Police say Rankin worked as a manager for King Caterers in Farmingdale. The investigation revealed that orders were being placed at the coffee trucks during their routes, utilizing a pre-printed order sheet. When the trucks returned to Smith Street, investigators say Rankin would fill the orders and place them in the trucks for delivery the following day.

After a search of the Smith Street location, police say illegal fireworks were recovered from several trucks.

Two other arrests were made at a residence in Brentwood and a third arrest at a residence in Central Islip. The Central Islip location reportedly contained more than $50,000 worth of illegal fireworks stored in a garage.
