Elderly man loses 3 limbs in mauling

STATEN ISLAND Authorities say Henry Piotrowski was attacked on the side of his John Street home just after 11 a.m.

Piotrowski was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.

His arms and legs were severely mauled by the dogs during the brutal attack. Doctors were forced to amputate both legs and one arm.

The dogs were chased away by an angry neighbor waiving a butcher's knife.

"I've never seen so much blood in my life," neighbor Stephanie Morton said.

The dogs had ran through backyards to Piotrowski's property. They escaped back home to their owner's house Newark Avenue, where police quickly arrived.

The dogs were tranquilized by Animal Care and Control officers and removed from the house, but later euthanized. Animal Control is testing the dogs for rabies.

The owner was being questioned by detectives.
