A nanny died and a young boy was injured in a Long Island pool tragedy Thursday. The incident happened at a home on Flo Drive in Syosset.

Authorities say the nanny was watching the 3-year-old boy and his two siblings by the backyard pool when he took off his life vest and entered the pool.

Nassau County police confirm the woman jumped into the pool to save the boy. The child's mother reportedly heard the struggle in the pool and ran outside to help. She was able to save the child and called to neighbors for help.

Police officers and firefighters pulled out the nanny with assistance from a neighbor.

Both were rushed to separate hospitals, where the nanny, a woman in her 60s, was pronounced dead.

The young boy is in stable condition after being revived by medical technicians.

Dozens of officers could be seen at the home and surrounding the fenced-in pool where the tragedy happened.
