A teen was shot by police during a scuffle in Elizabeth this morning, just blocks from police headquarters. Eyewitness News has learned the boy, whose age was not available, was shot by the officer near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Chestnut Street just after 12:30 a.m.

He was rushed to Trinitas Hospital for treatment. His injuries were reportedly not considered life threatening.

Officials say the teen was shot during some sort of traffic dispute, that ended with a white minivan on the sidewalk. One police officer sustained a minor injury, and was taken from the scene on a stretcher.

Police taped off the scene as they marked the shots fired with markers. The crime scene was just blocks from Elizabeth Police Headquarters.

The shooting will be reviewed by the Union County Prosecutor's Office, which is standard procedure.
