Two officers and a sergeant were on patrol when they saw a man running down the street with a gun in his hand.
The officers ordered the man to stop. Police say the man fired at the officers and they returned fire, striking him.
The gunman was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not identified.
A weapon was recovered.
