Woman seeks help finding attacker

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - ''I don't want nobody to go through what I went through,'' said Gloria Correa, who has been through unimaginable pain from a fractured skull and injuries we can't see as she fights to overcome the psychological scars of an attack that nearly killed her.

"I pray to God that they'll find somebody,'' she said.

That's why she's speaking out, hoping the publicity will spark a lead that will help Jersey City police track down the masked man who so brutally attacked her here.

Police said they have no promising leads to give this 43-year-old woman and her mother hope.

''Very, very frustrated. It's been 6 months. Nothing. Nothing,'' Julia Sandoval said.

Nothing, even though there is some evidence.

Surveillance cameras in the building may have captured some of the attack on January 20th at 4:00 a.m. as Gloria headed for her 6th floor apartment.

Gloria was attacked as she came off the elevator by a man lurking around the corner. He started beating her with a metal pipe. He hit her over the head several times and then dragged her into the stairwell.

''They dragged me by my legs," she explained. "(They) pulled me to the stairs and they started punching my eye.''

She would be discovered in the stairwell four hours later in a pool of blood, unconscious and with a fractured skull. She would spend months in the hospital and in rehab.

''I want to see justice for my daughter,'' Sandoval said.

The daughter who is trying to get back to the person she used to be says an arrest will help.

''He doesn't belong out there,'' she said.
