Professor fired over noose appeals

NEW YORK - Teachers College professor Madonna G. Constantine was sanctioned in February after administrators concluded she used others' work without attribution in papers published in academic journals. Last October, Constantine drew widespread attention when a noose was discovered hanging from her office door.

Constantine says she was fired because she spoke out after that incident. She calls the plagiarism allegations baseless.

Police say they still don't know who placed the noose on the door.

Constantine's lawyer says she remains employed and suspended with pay during the appeal. He says an expert will prove she's the original author of the disputed work.

A university spokesman says a hearing for Constantine will be held before a faculty committee.
