Belmar mayor's newsletter rattles tourists

BELMAR, N.J. (AP) - Not in Belmar, where the Monmouth County beach resort discusses "Guidos," "Staten Island girls" and "blondes."

Mayor Ken Pringle tells the Asbury Park Press the July 4th edition was meant to be tongue-in-cheek and entertaining.

Pringle described "Guidos" as rare birds in Armani Exchange T-shirts and are "as welcome as, oh, Canada geese."

Describing a fight involving a Staten Island woman, the mayor wrote, "Journalistically speaking, "SI woman punches other woman' is right up there with "Dog bites man."

Staten Island resident Samantha Padovano tells the newspaper "that's like us calling all Jersey girls skanks!"

A story about two women who couldn't figure out how to take out their garbage appeared under the headline "Let us guess...they're blonde."

The mayor says the newsletter's goal is to show renters how year-round residents perceive their conduct.
