Baby falls out window in Queens

Mario Valasquez can barely speak about the moment he heard blood curdling screams coming from the back bedroom of the apartment. His niece, 1-year old Cindy Riveros had climbed up ona chair, and gone out a third floor window.

She did not just fall the three stories. She fell the three floors, but then she also fell down a stairwell to the basement level.

She missed a metal frame, and landed on two rubber balls that broke her fall and saved her life.

"If it wasn't for that, the police say she would have been dead," Alexa Flecha said.

Flecha ran when she heard the screams too.

"She was crying. I ran as fast as I could up here. I looked out the window and the only thing I could see was blood," she said.

Cindy's mom picked her up and literally ran her to the hospital a few blocks away.

While doctors in the emergency room were treating her, her family was asking, they said, once again for bars on that back window.

Flecha said the landlord ignored their requests. We tried to reach the landlord, but couldn't.

As relatives wait for word on how little Cindy is doing, a candle will remain lit for her -- a reminder of what her Uncle Mario calls a miracle.
