Children found in filthy Long Island home

A Long Island woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of her four children after a neighbor called 911 to report that the kids were living in filth.Suffolk County police say they arrived at the home in Lake Grove Wednesday night and found that the home was infested with bugs and filled with garbage.

Police say the basement was flooded, the smell was revolting and the children had not been fed for a week. They are aged 2, 9, 12 and 15.

Police found the mother, Denise Schnell, at her workplace. She will be arraigned Thursday on four counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The children are in the custody of Child Protective Services.
