Cops: Love triangle ends with death

LONG ISLAND They say if it wasn't for a brave witness the suspect would be on the run.

"I didn't know somone was under the car until someone told me," said Edmund Killingbeck.

Killingbeck according to police stopped a murder suspect from attempting to flee from a fatal hit and run Sunday morning.

Police say Lorenzo Tobar intentionally drove his SUV up onto the curb and mowed down a man on his bicycle .

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old laborer Ludwin Marcia.

Police say Tobar also smashed into a row of parked cars dragging the victim several feet underneath the car, then reportedly tried to just take off.

Tobar according to police came barreling down Bennett Avenue in his SUV with intent to harm Marcia. They say Tobar was drinking and in a jealous rage.

"They knew each other because they were both competing for affections of the same woman," said Det. Michael Fleming.

The suspect, who has an 11-year-old son with the woman, moved out of her Hempstead apartment three months ago. That's when she started dating Marcia.

The woman wasn't home today but did leave a photo out with family of her now deceased boyfriend.

Neighbors outside her apartment said she feels guilty and can't make sense of what happened, especially since the victim, Marcia, is being remembered as a good man.

Tobar is being held without bail on second degree murder charges.
