A motorist was killed and three others were injured following a fiery crash involving a tractor-trailer that clogged the morning commute through the Bronx. The woman died when the mini-van she was in collided with a tractor-trailer, setting one of the vehicles ablaze, just before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others in the mini-van were treated for various injuries.

The truck driver also suffered minor injuries.

The accident, on the eastbound Cross Bronx Expressway ramp to the northbound New England Thruway, wreaked havoc on both roadways.

All eastbound lanes were closed on the Cross Bronx Expressway at the Bruckner interchange ramp to the Throgs Neck and Whitestone bridges.

All northbound lanes on the New England Thruway were closed at Zerega Avenue. Additionally, all traffic to Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges were being detoured to local roads at Zerega Avenue via the service road.

It took more than four hours to clear the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. ---
