Underground explosion on the UWS

A manhole fire damaged two cars parked on the Upper West Side this morning. Eyewitness News has learned a manhole caught fire West 76th Street and Broadway at around 6 a.m.

Officials say the force of the blast blew out the back windows of an SUV parked on the street. It also damaged a second car parked at the site.

No injuries were reported.

Con Edison crews closed the block of West 76th Street as they repaired the damage caused by the fire.
