Several injured in school bus crash

PORT CHESTER The accident happened just after 3 p.m., near exit 2 on the southbound side of I-95.

Authorities say 59 of the 79 kids were taken to the hospital. The children were between the ages of 8 and 15 and were returning from the beach when a truck in front of the buses suddenly stopped, officials said. The first bus apparently rear-ended the truck, and the second bus hit the first.

"Some of [the students] hurt their neck and back," 12-year-old Christina Hernandez told the Journal News. "One girl, her braces popped and she had metal in her mouth."

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have yet been filed.

The Journal News reports that the children were students at the Rosedale Achievement Center, an after-school leadership center for girls.
