Sharpton gets trial; Other charges dismissed

Judge sets trial date for Rev. Al Sharpton
NEW YORK Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Neil Ross said Monday that disorderly conduct charges against Trent Benefield and Joseph Guzman will be dropped if they stay out of legal trouble for six months.

Activist minister Al Sharpton rejected a sentence of time served if he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. He called that offer unfair.

The judge scheduled a Sept. 10 trial for Sharpton and about 10 other people.

Bell, who was unarmed, died in a hail of 50 police bullets on Nov. 25, 2006, as he left his wedding bachelor party at a Queens topless bar.
