Police foil robbery attempt in Central Park

NEW YORK The 15-year-olds reportedly jumped their victims, tourists from Spain, near West Drive at West 85th Street at around 9:15 p.m.

Poice say two boys punched a 33-year-old man in the face, while a 15-year-old girl tried to swipe a 26-year-old woman's purse.

She failed to get the purse, and the victims fled -- with the suspects chasing.

Authorities say four police officers, assigned to the Central Park Precinct, spotted the chase. They grabbed the two 15-year-old boys, who allegedly fought back.

According to reports, one officer fractured his hand during the arrest, while three sustained bumps and bruises. All four officers were taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for treatment.

The two teens placed under arrest were charged with robbery, and one was also charged with resisting arrest. Police are still searching for the third teen.

The tourists refused medical treatment at the scene.
