Cops: Woman runs over husband, flees

LONG ISLAND Police say Dennis Durnin, of West Babylon, was struck and killed by his wife Wednesday evening.

Authorities say 45-year-old Maureen Hines was backing out of a parking spot at her apartment complex, Karis Manor Apartments on South Railroad Avenue, at 5:20 p.m. when Durnin approached the driver side of the 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer she was driving. Police say Hines continued to back out and struck Durnin, knocking him to the ground.

Hines allegedly fled before police and an ambulance responded.

Police say an extensive search was conducted for Hines. On July 31 at 2:30 a.m., Suffolk County detectives were notified by the Jefferson Township Police Department in New Jersey that Hines was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and that the vehicle had been recovered.

The 64-year-old Durnin was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

Detectives ask that anyone that may have witnessed the crash or had contact with Maureen Hines to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
