A postal truck collided with a car on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx, killing one person and critically injuring another. The tractor-trailer apparently jumped the median on the highway, just south of the New York City line, at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

The rig crashed head-on into a car, killing one person in the car and critically injuring another. The driver of the rig was not seriously injured.

The ensuing cleanup closed both northbound and southbound lanes into the morning commute.

The tractor-trailer, operated by a Postal Service contractor Finkle Trucking in Clifton, N.J., was empty. It was headed from a White Plains postal facility to one in Jersey City.
