Two arrests in Upper West Side muggings

New York City police have made two arrests as they continue to look for young suspects wanted for a sting of robberies in and around Riverside Park. The arrests happened following the robbery of a 22-year-old man at West 91st Street and Central Park West at 6:15 Friday evening.

According to police, the man had passed a group of young men two blocks prior. As he approached 91st Street, one of them punched him in the back of the head, while another one grabbed his bag.

Nearby police officers captured the two suspects, both 15 years old. They are charged with robbery. Their names have not been released because they are juveniles.

Police are still looking for more suspects wanted for mugging at least six people in the last month. Investigators have released surveillance pictures of some of the suspects.

The robberies happened between West 100th Street and 125th Street within the confines of the 24 and 26 precincts.

Details are as follows:

1) On Saturday, 06-21-08 in Sakura Park, near Riverside Drive and West 122nd St. within the confines of the 26 precinct, a victim was approached from behind by 4 male blacks who assaulted the victim and removed his cell phone.

2) On Sunday, 07-13-08 in Riverside Park, near River Side Drive and W. 116 St. within the confines of the 26 precinct, a victim was approached by four male blacks who assaulted the victim and removed his cell phone.

3) On Sunday, 07-13-08 in Riverside Park, near Tiemann Place and Riverside Drive within the confines of the 26 precinct, a victim was riding his bicycle when the suspects threw a stick at his wheel, causing him to fall off the bicycle. The suspects then approached the victim, assaulted him, and removed his cell phone.

4) On Sunday, 07-20-08 near Riverside Drive and W. 120 St., within the confines of the 26 precinct, a victim was approached by 6 male blacks who assaulted him and removed his property.

5) On Monday, 07-21-08 in Riverside Park, near Riverside Drive and W. 93 St. within the confines of the 24 precinct, a victim was approached by 10 male blacks who assaulted him and attempted to remove his book bag.

6) On Wednesday 07-23-08 in Riverside Park, near Riverside Drive and W. 103 St., a victim was approached by 10 male blacks who assaulted the victim and removed his back pack.

The suspects, committing between 2 to 10 incidents, are all black males, ranging in ages from 13 to 17-years-old.

Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to call the NYPD's CRIMESTOPPERS hotline at 800-577-tips. There is a $2000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
