Allergy free sweets in New Jersey

NEW JERSEY Bella's bakery in Milburn, New Jersey where they are allergy friendly.

It's something you probably take for granted. Blowing out candles on your birthday cake.

Eyewitness News' Kemberly Richardson spoke to the Chef of Bella's. "It's rewarding to see kids who can't have anything and are so excited to get their white bakery box with their cake in it."

Janet Antico is the woman responsible for making so many children's dreams come true after her own daughter Arabella was diagnosed with peanut allergy she had an idea.

"I said to parents I'll bake treat for class know she's safe and doesn't have to sit on the side and be excluded and sitting on the side having a popsicle," said Antico.

Six years ago Janet started Bella's Bakery. Everything there is peanut and nut free. Its organic and if needed dairy free.

An estimated 1.5 million people suffer from the disease, one that sends about 15,000 to the emergency each year.

People like 15-year-old A.J. "Now that I know if I eat a peanut it's actually fatal," he said.

Janet is now in the process of moving into a lager space. Word spread fast about her treats as business tripled over the last year. She'll have a complete bakery and retail space.

For this former account and graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, seeing the progress makes all the hard work worth it.

"It's a big thing for kids to be able to walk into a bakery and it's safe for them and they can pick out anything they want," adds Janet.

Phone orders will be available September 1st, by calling 973-921-1337.
