Baby girl critical after fall from fire escape

BRONX - Daina Martinez was visiting with her aunt, Maxima Arias, and other family members. At one point, her aunt says, they put the baby down. Somehow unnoticed, she made her way through the living room into a bedroom and apparently out onto the fire escape.

Oscania Quezada found 17-month old Daina on the concrete in the court yard and called for help. Paramedics rushed to the scene, stabilized her condition, and then took the little girl to the hospital.

The building super says there are no child guards on the windows that lead to the fire escape. He said he tells residents to keep those windows shut. There is a guard on the window next to it.
