Off-duty corrections officer attacked

SOUTHAMPTON - The incident happened at the popular Publick House at Bowden Square in Southampton.

The officer, 40-year-old Andrew Reister, is also employed as a bouncer at the bar.

Investigators said Reister asked a patron to stop dancing on a table around 1:00 Thursday morning.

The patron, Anthony Oddone, 25, of 55 Clover Ave., Farmingville, allegedly held Reister in a choke hold and continued choking Reister for a significant period of time even after Reister was unconscious.

A number of people unsuccessfully attempted to stop Oddone, who fled the scene in a taxi.

Southampton Village Police arrested Oddone a short time later.

Oddone was charged with Assault 1st Degree and arraigned today at Southampton Village Justice Court. He is being held on $500,000 bail.

Reister was listed in extremely critical condition at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
