NYC tries traffic-free urban playground

NEW YORK In New York, about seven miles of Manhattan is becoming traffic-free for six hours Saturday, creating a weekend playground for bikers, walkers and loungers.

Bike-loving celebrities Lance Armstrong and David Byrne back the experiment, called Summer Streets.

On three Saturdays this month, the car-free route will start at the Brooklyn Bridge and end at East 72nd Street, with links to Central Park and other open spaces. It includes stretches of Park and Lexington avenues.
