A New York man has been indicted on charges he bred, trained and sold roosters for the city's illegal cockfighting circuit. Prosecutors say the man's Brooklyn home was searched last week and 58 roosters were removed. They say some of the roosters had their claws sharpened or had other surgical alterations to help them fight better.

Investigators say they also found steroids and growth hormones.

The 40-year-old man faces 12 years in prison if convicted.

Another man also has been arrested in the case.
