Surveillance of elevator robbery released

CROWN HEIGHTS - The 85-year-old woman was attacked as she went to visit her niece in Brooklyn last Thursday.

The incident happened inside 1015 Washington Avenue in the Wingate section.

Police say the suspect, a black male in his 20s or 30s, followed the victim into the elevator and placed her in a choke hold.

He then grabbed the woman's purse and fled on foot.

It is believed that the suspect may be responsible for other similar robberies in the area.

Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's CrimeStoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS.

The public can also text their tips to 274637, then enter tip577. All information shall be kept strictly confidential.

A reward of up to $12,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
