Hottest fall fashions

NEW YORK It's time to look forward to fall and what fashions will be big.

We checked in with some of the the experts to see what trends will be hitting the stores and may very well end up in your own wardrobe.

"If there's one thing that you need to buy this fall, it's a leather jacket," Stephanie Solomon said. "They are not just for Hell's Angels. They look great on everybody."

Solomon, of Bloomingdale's, says the fall's must have is a leather jacket, and it comes in four looks: college girl, working girl, party girl and sophisticated lady.

"It's a great look for ladies of all ages," she said. "It's something you can really get away with while you're on your way to work. Leather is a great fabric for the fall season. It's not too hot and not too cold. It's just perfect."

Meredith Melling-Burke, of Vogue, has a favorite fall trend.

"One of the most important investments for the season, I think, that a lot of women will be able to wear is the two-tone sheath dress," she sad. "It's the classic silhouette, but it gets a twist this season with this combination of colors."

And to go with that new sheath dress, bold jewelry.

"Almost costume heirloom jewelry," Melling-Burke said. "It looks like it's come from granny's jewelry box, but it's brand new and it's not as expensive."

And get ready for a return to that high-heeled stiletto.

"It's a much narrower, pointier heel, but we see a stiletto ankle boot," Melling-Burke said. "It's another big trend for the season."

"The little black dress has morphed this fall to the sexy black dress," she added. "It's more body conscious."

Expect to add some lace and prints to your fall wardrobe. And don't worry, these looks won't max out your wallet.

"All of the trends that we've identified on the runway are going to appear at every price range," Melling-Burke said. "We'll see them at Gap, we'll see them at Club Monaco and we'll see them at Target."

The featured leather jackets range in price from $280 to $800. But with a tight economy, don't be surprised to see items go on sale sooner than later.
