The man was was trapped in the flames that broke out in the rear of the Mann Avenue home just before 4:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, daughter and her friend were able to escape through a second-floor window in the front of the home. The wife and daughter were rushed to St. Barnabas Medical Center with severe smoke inhalation. They were in critical condition. The daughter's friend was treated and released. The wife was identified as a librarian at nearby Drew University, and the daughter is a student at Catholic University of America.
