A livery driver survived being shot by a passenger in the East Elmhurst section of Queens this morning. Police say 37-year-old Jose Santa Cruz was shot in the face shortly after picking up the passenger in front of 25-04 Curtis Street just after 1 a.m. He was apparently called there by the passenger.

Eyewitness News is told at some point during the ride, the driver was shot. The passenger then jumped out of the livery cab and fled the scene.

The driver, who was shot in the cheek, was taken to Elmhurst Medical Center in stable condition. He was conscious and able to talk to police detectives.

His car ended up at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Junction Boulevard, where authorities searched the vehicle for evidence.

No arrests were immediately made.
