Man killed while crossing street on LI

Police on Long Island are searching for the driver behind a deadly hit and run.The accident happened on Route 110 in North Amityville early Monday morning.

Witnesses saw the victim being dragged away, followed by the driver speeding off.

Authorities say 40-year-old Heriberto DeJesus was crossing the northbound lanes of Route 110, near North Ronald Drive, at 4:42 a.m. when he was hit by an unknown vehicle.

DeJesus was dragged by the vehicle for approximately 100 feet. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office.

The victim's shoes were at the scene, at the point of impact. Investigators collected pieces of the vehicle that they hope will lead them to the driver.
