A construction worker was charged with backing his red pickup truck into three Hispanic-operated businesses in the Port Richmond section of Staten Island in an apparent bias spree. Authorities say 34-year-old Joseph Papapietro was hit with three counts of criminal mischief as a hate crime in connection with the August 18 incidents.

Papapietro allegedly backed his truck into three businesses operated by Mexicans on Port Richmond Avenue, frightening business owners.

The suspect made statements linking him to the ramming spree, according to police.

Cocaine residue was found in the pickup truck. He was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and operating a motor vehicle without a license in that incident.
