A man suspected of killing his mother-in-law earlier this month on Long Island has been arrested and charged. Harpal Hira, 34, was arrested on Wednesday in Queens and charged with second-degree murder.

The incident happened on August 2nd at Hira's two-story brick house in Syosset. Police say the wife called 911 saying her mother had been stabbed multiple times.

When police arrived they found 56-year-old Meenah Kohli dead inside the home and at that point her 23-year-old daughter, who called for help, was on the front lawn with lacerations on her face and arms.

Police say Hira wasn't supposed to be at the house since there was an order of protection against him.

Cops arrested Hira in June at the home for allegedly physically assaulting his wife..

But detectives say despite all of that, his wife invited him over for cake and be part of a monthly birthday celebration for their three month old twin boys

Police believe the victim, visiting from Kuwait, was trying to protect her daughter.
