Tuskegee Airman gets 'refresher course'

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. Roscoe Brown is a former commander of a Mustang fighter squadron that were responsible for protecting B-17s flying over Berlin in March 1945.

He got a "refresher course" Friday in piloting a P-51 Mustang at Republic Airport in Farmingdale. The fighter plane is similar to one he flew during World War II when he shot down a Nazi plane.

Brown flew 68 missions, shot down two enemy planes and completed more than a dozen ground attacks during the war. The Tuskegee Airmen were black military pilots who flew and fought from 1942 to 1946.
