Did woman help kill friend's mom?

OSSINING Westchester resident Carmela Magnetti is charged with criminal facilitation, hindering prosecution and evidence tampering in Patricia Mery's killing. The 59-year-old teacher's body was found on Mother's Day in 2006, three days after she was killed in a custody dispute over her granddaughter.

Prosecutors say Magnetti drove her to Mery's house in Ossining the day she was killed, picked Trovato up later and gave her a fake alibi. She could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Defense attorney Ted Brundage says there was no proof that his client knew Mery would be murdered when she drove Trovato to her mother's house.
