Man wanted for stealing parking meters

Police are searching for a man they say has stolen dozens of parking meters off the streets of New York City. Authorities have the meters and know who they are looking for, but say it is just a matter of finding him.

Officials from the Department of Transportation say they have never seen anything like this before: 87 parking meters stolen from one area, by one man.

Police say a homeowner returned from vacation to find 19 parking meters lying around her home. She called police, and then called again the next day to report finding 68 more in a crawlspace.

They are looking for 34-year-old Maurice Mizrahi. He is 5-foot-9 and 140 pounds. Police say he was arrested last year for doing the same thing. He reportedly lives in Sheepshead Bay with his adopted mother.

Many of the meters were broken, according to police. They say the meters cost about $500 apiece. Police are not sure how much money Mizrahi got away with, but they say each meter can hold up to $70. If the meters were full, Mizrahi could have made more than $6,000.
