Student struck by hit and run driver

An eighth grader was struck by a hit and run vehicle as she walked to school in the Briarwood section of QueensEyewitness News is told the girl was hit about a block away from J.H.S. 217, the Van Wyck Junior High School, just after 8 a.m.

She was reportedly struck by a grey and silver Honda Civic that fled the scene.

The girl was taken to Jamaica Medical Center with an ankle injury.

A school aide saw the incident and reported the description of the vehicle to police. Authorities are now searching for the car.
