Livery driver in hospital after stabbing

BRONX Police say the driver was stabbed while on Herring Avenue, just after 11 p.m. He was reportedly stabbed in the stomach and the chest.

Authorities say the 49-year-old driver lost control of his livery car and crashed into another vehicle.

A neighbor, who is a trained EMT, heard the crash and came outside to help.

"I literally took the shirt off the husband's back, and I applied pressure to the wounds," Vickie Callender said. "His intestines were hanging out. I just checked his pulse and kept him alive until the cops came."

He was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Police are searching for two men who fled the scene. No arrests were immediately made.
