Secaucus filed suit to try to block the Meadowlands Exposition Center from hosting the three-day sex industry conference.
Officials said the event violates state law prohibiting certain sexual activities in establishments with a liquor license.
In a statement, the event's promoter says the liquor license issue would have posed problems and organizers didn't want to postpone the convention. The Raritan Center does not serve alcohol.
The event features seminars about sex, pornography and adult businesses. There also are stage performances and exhibits by makers of sex toys.
Edison Mayor Jun Choi said Tuesday that he was not happy the event was coming to his community, but that there was little chance it could be stopped.
"We strongly object to this event coming to Edison," he said. But he noted that Edison was in a different legal position than Secaucus because alcohol will not be served and the convention hall is in an area of the township away from any schools.
