No comment outside, but her union-appointed attorney told the judge the incident was a misunderstanding. Beckford believed a cousin was watching her daughter when she left her home at 5:00 a.m.
Prosecutors say the cousin himself left for work at 8:00 a.m. Around 1:30 p.m. police got a 911 call they believe was from the young girl.
Police eventually found the girl locked in a bedroom.
In setting bail the judge told Beckford, "as a mother, this story doesn't ring true," telling the 39-year old that her job as a parent is more important and requires more responsibility than her duties as a corrections cop.
