Hedge-fund swindler Samuel Israel III still can't plead guilty to skipping out on prison by faking his suicide.Israel's planned plea in suburban White Plains, N.Y., has been postponed to Oct. 22 because he's still being treated for an addiction to painkillers.

His lawyer, Barry Bohrer, told Judge Kenneth Karas that - based on his conversations with Israel - the defendant needs more time "to perceive and actively understand what's going on."

He'd been scheduled to admit in court Tuesday that he failed to surrender on June 9 for a 20-year term for bilking investors out of hundreds of millions of dollars. Authorities say Israel faked his suicide and went on the lam in an RV until turning himself in on July 2.
