Glass falls from Midtown skyscraper

MANHATTAN The incident happened at the Bank of America building at 1116 6th Avenue around 2:00.

The panel came from the facade of a tower under construction in midtown Manhattan across from Bryant Park, officials said.

The area around the building was blocked during the evening rush hour as emergency crews cleaned up the glass shards.

It's the same building where a 1500-pound glass pane crashed to the ground from the 51st floor of that 54-story building on August 12. Two people were slightly hurt in that accident.

Last October, a bucket attached to a crane fell from the top of the building, injuring eight people.

In April, also on a weekday morning, much of a 4-by-8-foot panel fell from a 27th-floor window from the old Verizon Building at 1095 Avenue of the Americas. No injuries were reported in that accident.
